Today, we’ll be taking a look at the flagship Canon MG8220 Wireless Photo All-in-One. It offers many of the same features we first saw on the Pixma MG8120: identical print speeds and print resolution, Intelligent Touch system with 3.5-inch LCD, two-way paper feeding, automatic duplexing and built-in wireless connectivity.
The Canon PIXMA MG8220 shares all of the key features of the Editors’ Choice Canon Pixma MG8120 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer that it’s replacing in Canon’s line (although the MG8120 is still available at this writing). It prints, scans, and copies; extends the scan feature to include 35mm film (defined here as both slides and strips of film); and it expands the copy feature to let you print photos directly from film. In addition, it can print from a long list of other sources, starting with the usual: memory cards, USB memory keys, and PictBridge cameras.
The PIXMA MG8220 sticks with the Intelligent Touch system and adjustable 3.5-inch LCD. For those unfamiliar, the Intelligent Touch features backlit touch sensitive buttons operating through electric currents as opposed to the push of a finger (fight the overwhelming desire to physically press the backlit buttons). For Canon users in the know, the Easy Scroll Wheel has now been adopted into a touch sensitive scroll wheel.
Overall, this unit should definitely be considered a triumph for Canon. Now that their devices are becoming AirPrint compatible, HP may find some competition in the mobile printing arena. This printer would be a solid addition to any home or a home office with low to medium printing volume.
