While the rest of his “Dancing With the Stars” castmates are busy making the press rounds and hitting up rehearsals, “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is missing out while filming his hit MTV show. But don’t feel too bad for him: He knows he’ll be able to play catch-up.
“I’m going to lose a couple days practice,” he told People magazine. “But I don’t mind being the underdog. I promise to try my hardest and practice as much as I can and be the best that I can be. I hope the Situation Nation shows up to support me. … I have a ticket or two reserved for Pauly D and Snooki.”
The Sitch admits he’s feeling pretty lucky these days, given the fact that, come September 20, when the new season of “DWTS” begins, he’ll be on two hit shows. “It’s pretty unbelievable for me to be on one of the biggest shows on MTV to one of the biggest shows on TV,” he explained. “There’s enough Situation to go around.”
Fellow MTV star Audrina Patridge is also looking forward to hitting the floor, even though she has very little professional dancing experience. “I’ll go out with my girlfriends and dance,” the former “Hills” star said. “When I was a little girl, my mom put me and my sister in ballet, jazz and tap.”
Another “Dancing With the Stars” newbie, Bristol Palin, spoke to “Good Morning America” on Tuesday (August 31), revealing that her partner is Mark Ballas. More partners are expected to be announced Wednesday on “GMA.”

When Jay-Z and Eminem take the stage in Detroit at Comerica Park on Thursday and Friday and again in New York at Yankee Stadium on September 13 and 14, it be a meeting of two of the biggest names in rap, who between them have sold more than 120 million albums.
But their pairing is just the latest mega-coupling in the history of tours that promised to bring together the best of both worlds (sorry, Jay and R. Kelly, we tried not to bring that one up).
Among our favorites:
Guns N’ Roses and Metallica
This volcanic 1992 outing featuring the biggest rock band in the world and the thrash legends who would soon snatch that crown was every bit as explosive as anticipated. With unpredictable act Faith No More in the opening slot (after Nirvana reportedly declined), the three-month stadium tour featured plenty of drama, including Metallica singer James Hetfield suffering second- and third-degree pyro burns during a show in Montreal, which turned into a riot after Guns singer Axl Rose left the stage complaining of a sore throat.
Wu-Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine
At the height of their powers in 1997, bomb-throwing Los Angeles rockers Rage teamed up with the equally incendiary rap crew for what was slated to be a triumphant tour of amphitheaters and arenas. But in a sign of how shook Rage had the authorities, police in a number of cities tried to get the shows canceled fearing Rage’s alleged “anti-law-enforcement” stance, to no avail. Due to internal pressure within the sometimes-fractious Wu-Tang, some missed shows and an alleged assault, the Clan dropped off after less than two weeks of shows, replaced by the Roots and Foo Fighters.
Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera
The Justified/Stripped Tour may go down as the last hurrah of the teen-pop era. The 2003 joint tour between the former ‘NSYNC legend and the pop diva was a high-tech, big-budget extravaganza that found both singers at the peak of their powers.
Eminem, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, G-Unit and D12
It was a rap monster, with the Slim Shady and 50 headlining the Anger Management 3 amphitheater outing that would mark the last full-fledged tour by Eminem in the past five years. Marshall Mathers would end up canceling the European leg of the tour in order to check into rehab for a prescription-medicine addiction.
There are plenty of others, too, many of them on the classic-rock tip, including the unlikely pairing of two former Van Halen singers, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, in 2002; the 1995 pairing of Neil Young and Pearl Jam; and the ongoing collaboration between the world’s leading piano men, Elton John and Billy Joel.
History is also filled with tours that never happened that were as exciting on paper as some of the ones that have, including the scotched dual-headlining Fame Kills extravaganza promised by Lady Gaga and Kanye West last year. That eye-popping spectacle was grounded after West went into hiding following his bum-rush of Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards. Then there was the Big Four Tour featuring Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax that has reportedly been brewing for two years but has yet to happen. Instead, it turned into this year’s American Carnage Tour with Slayer, Megadeth and Testament.

It was spring 1998. DMX was the hottest cat in hip-hop and released his SoundScan-murdering debut LP It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot. That winter, X came right back with another scorcher, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.
OK, speed up 12 years. We all know about Drake’s popularity. His debut, Thank Me Later, came out this past spring, and believe it or not, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Drizzy could come right back with another album just in time for Christmas.
“Drake’s crazy,” Young Money president Mack Maine told MTV News last week. “He’s doing a mixtape right now. He called me one night, like 2 in the morning. He has the intro done for the new album. We was discussing dates where he should come back. That’ll be soon. And this mixtape, he’s gonna put that out quick. His formula is crazy. He works fast. I can’t give the secret away to the formula. He’s a musical genius. The way he and [producer] 40 put things together is crazy.”
When we asked Mack if Drake was putting out another LP before next summer, he simply said, “Real possible! What we discussed, definitely, what me and him discussed.”
Such a quick turnaround between Thank Me Later and its follow-up is a simple case of supply and demand.
“It makes sense,” Mack said. “Like DMX and those guys [at Def Jam]. They dropped two in one year. I think 50 [Cent] did two in one year. If it wasn’t a year, it was right around that time. [Drake's] hot like that. Why not? Give them what they want.”
When asked if Drizzy would have an album in the marketplace in time for it to be a stocking stuffer around the holidays, Mack Mizzle smiled and advised us to “expect the unexpected.”
Regardless of when the new LP comes out, all signs point toward Drake’s R&B mixtape, It’s Never Enough, to come this year. There has been a smattering of Drake records popping up randomly on the Internet recently, such as “What If I Kissed You.”

Lady Gaga gave her Little Monsters another sneak peek at her upcoming album on Monday night during a show in St. Paul, Minnesota, when she pulled back the cover on the song “Living on the Radio.”
The gentle piano ballad has a nostalgic feel. In it, Gaga gives herself a kind of pep talk about fame and fortune, throws a loving shout out to her adoring fans and pats herself on the back for finally realizing her ambition of getting on the radio.
“Baby, you must be free/ Keep living on the radio/ That’s your dream,” sings Gaga, who at the age of 24 has already charted six #1 hits between her debut, The Fame, and its sequel, The Fame Monster, as well as notching 25 million singles downloads and near ubiquity on the radio over the past 18 months. “Baby, you’ve got a friend/ And so many little monsters/ Keep living on the radio/ And when there’s nowhere to go/ And all your friends are gone/ And you’ve only got your daddy to call/ You’re gonna be alright, honey/ Because your songs are on the radio.”
In the classic tradition of the road tune, Gaga laments the loneliness of living out of a suitcase and lonely nights spent away from home. It helps that, in her case, she’s traveling on a “road paved in gold,” which clearly makes it a bit less of a drag. There are also nods to champagne, caviar and sold-out shows, which also presumably make a tour bus that much easier to manage.
It’s the second song from Gaga’s still-untitled album, which the singer has been previewing during her Monster Ball Tour, coming on the heels of “You and I,” which she debuted in late June at Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara ball. It’s unknown if either song will make the cut on the disc, which Gaga has described as “utter liberation” and frequent Gaga producer RedOne said will be “shocking.”

It’s that time of the year again: ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” casting announcement is here! The rumors have been circulating, guesses made and, finally, the official list is here.
As usual, the new crop of celebrity dancers is a band of merry misfits. But we here at MTV News can’t help but smile that two of the newest castmembers are, in a sense, homegrown:
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
Something tells us this “Jersey Shore” breakout star isn’t going to have a problem showing off a little chest on “DWTS.” The self-proclaimed guido has already made an impression on reality-TV fans with his one-liners and manscaped abs; now he can put all the time he spent fist-pumping in Seaside Heights nightclubs to good use on the dance floor.
Audrina Patridge
The brunet starlet made her Hollywood debut on MTV’s “The Hills” as Heidi and Lauren’s aspiring-model neighbor. Patridge has since pursued an acting career, scoring parts in “Sorority Row” and “Into the Blue 2.” With “The Hills” signing off this past July, the California girl is ready to show off her fancy footwork on a new reality show.
Brandy
Once known primarily as the spunky and sweet teen singer of “Sittin’ Up in My Room” and “I Wanna Be Down” and the star of the sitcom “Moesha,” Brandy Norwood is back on television with her brother Ray J in the VH1 reality show “Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business.” Norwood was also rumored to be dating rapper Flo Rida in the spring.
Bristol Palin
By now she is no stranger to the spotlight. First thrust into the public eye via her mom’s VP candidacy with John McCain in 2008, Bristol Palin was just 17 when it was announced she was pregnant and engaged to her child’s father, Levi Johnston. Palin currently juggles the duties of a single mom with public speaking, advocating abstinence to teens. She also appeared as herself on an episode of “The Secret Life of an American Teenager.” Her relationship with Johnston has been the epitome of on-again, off-again (they are currently “off”).
Jennifer Grey
We can hear the “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” quotes now. Die-hard fans of the beloved “Dirty Dancing” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actress are likely clamoring to get tickets to see Grey step back into her dancing shoes — surely she’ll dance to “Time of My Life” (the classic “Dancing” number), right? In recent years, Grey has appeared on TV and in film, often guest-starring as herself.
David Hasselhoff
Hasselhoff — a.k.a. “The Hoff” — is no stranger to reality television, having just ended his stint as a judge on “America’s Got Talent.” Hasselhoff first rose to fame on the ’80s TV hit “Knight Rider,” then as forever-tan lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on “Baywatch.” He also enjoyed a brief career as a pop star in Germany, with two #1 hits on the German pop charts. Plus, he knows how to ham it up and take criticism — just check out his “Comedy Central Roast.”
Florence Henderson
The spunky 76-year-old is best known for playing the matriarch on “The Brady Show” in the late ’60s and early ’70s, but she hasn’t been a stranger over the past few decades, appearing on “The Surreal Life” in 2006 and even guest-hosting “WWE Monday Night Raw.” Hopefully she’ll fare a little better than previous AARP-eligible contestants (see: Cloris Leachman, Buzz Aldrin).
Margaret Cho
The racy comedian first made an impression with her 1994 sitcom “All American Girl,” which only lasted one season. Since then, she has written several books and found success on the road with her stand-up act. She also scored her own reality show in 2008: VH1’s “The Cho Show.” Let’s see if her entertaining comedy routine can translate into “DWTS” success.
Kurt Warner
One of two former pro athletes in the cast, Warner is a much-loved (for both his work on the football field and off) former NFL quarterback. Warner played 12 seasons for three different teams: the St. Louis Rams (with whom he helped win the Super Bowl and MVP in 2000), New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Warner holds several NFL records, including the three highest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history.
Michael Bolton
Anyone listening to top 40 radio in the ’90s grew to either love or hate Bolton’s chart-toppers “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You.” Combined with his signature (and sultry) tenor voice and his formerly flowing locks, Bolton was a force to be reckoned with. The balladeer has been in the news recently after word got out that he and Lady Gaga were working together on his upcoming album, One World One Love, due in September.
Rick Fox
Many former pro athletes have found success on the show (Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Emmett Smith, etc.), so the addition of the former NBA player — he played for the Celtics and the Lakers — is not too much of a surprise. Fox is also well-known for being Vanessa Williams’ ex-husband and a sometimes actor with bit parts in TV and film.
Kyle Massey
Perhaps due to the success and popularity of their last Disney kid, “Hannah Montana” actor Cody Linley, ABC added “That’s So Raven” and “Cory in the House” star Kyle Massey to the roster. The plucky 19-year-old — who is also a rapper — is the cast’s youngest member. Perhaps he’ll wow the audience with his dance moves and lyrical stylings.

On Saturday in New York, she brought a host of celebs onstage — including Jay-Z and Beyoncé — and on Sunday, at the closer in Washington, D.C., Nas was her guest. The two performed Esco’s classic “If I Ruled the World.”
As for Hill’s own classics from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and the Fugees’ The Score, she constantly changed up the arrangements for the records. The legendary songstress said she needed to be free.
“There’s been such a long period of time where I haven’t been able to communicate where my mind is, where my consciousness is, where my ideas are,” she told MTV News on Saturday. “I have to upgrade them a bit so that they’re still exciting and fresh and they’re new. There’s something almost jazz-like the way I approach performances. I’m not sure if the audience really understands. We need, or at least I need, a certain amount of spontaneity, a certain amount of improvisation every show. I might have gotten spoiled from the Fugee days. We used to improvise a lot. It kept it so fresh and exciting. I need that. I need that improvisational, almost jazz-like improvisational dynamic when I’m onstage. It keeps it so exciting. It’s that unknown, that literal X factor that makes every show something different — something unique and something I want to continue to do.”
Hill said that’s just where she is as an artist right now. “That’s the type of mind that I have, the type of spirit I have,” she said. “I need that new energy.”
For the outing, Hill said it was incredible to find musicians who are fearless.
“This is an athletic discipline,” she described. “You gotta be in shape to do it mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically. But it’s time. We’re excited about what the future holds.”

Track channels old-school Wu-Tang Clan, with two new verses from Raekwon.

On Kanye West’s re-engineered vision of Justin Bieber’s “Runaway Love,” which arrived online Monday (August 30), ‘Ye and Raekwon take turns trading Wu-homage rhymes in between the teen’s vocals.
West sampled the Wu-Tang Clan’s 1993 breakout smash “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit” for the number. In his verse, Kanye pays homage to Raekwon’s standout verse on Jodeci’s “Freek’N You” remix, among other nods to the Staten Island collective. The veteran Wu lyricist also gives a nod to that same verse.
“Yo, ‘Ye, what up,” Rae spits, opening the track like he did on the Jodeci hit. “You got stacks like the International House of Pancakes/ All alone, ready to phone me and your hand shakes/ Palms is wetted, don’s regret/ Never to walk miles for love, I sit in the starter’s deck.”
“Last name West, and my teeth diamonds,” West rapped. “She said, ‘Yo, what’s your occupation: crazy rhyming?’ ”
Bieber’s vocals are the same as on the original. Raekwon anchors the song with two verses, and Kanye has one verse on the track.
Raekwon spoke to MTV News earlier this month and revealed that only he and West joined forces in the studio for the track. The wordsmith made no mention of Bieber among the celebrities who were present during the session at New York’s Electric Lady Studios.
“Kanye was just being Kanye,” Rae said. “He was definitely excited. The energy in the room was already speaking for itself. It was time to get up and have fun on the track together. We was drinking, laughing, being normal cats. At the same time, we had a houseful of celebrities in the house as well. [Kanye] was moving through the facility, checking out the studios he had. He had three studios in there.
“You had Akon in the building. Mos Def was just chillin’. Mos is a good friend of ‘Ye’s,” Rae added. “You had Charlie Wilson, the legendary cat from the Gap Band. Chris Rock walked in. These are guys that really respect who ‘Ye is. ‘Ye’s energy is cool. He’s a normal cat. A normal Chicago/world cat. Very mature. Having a great time.”
The record came together after Kanye West and Justin Bieber talked to each other via Twitter. “Listening to @JustinBieber ‘Run Away love,’ ” West wrote “I love Sunday mornings in the crib.”
Bieber responded and the two traded messages about their mutual admiration.
West then added Raekwon in the mix. The producer revealed that the Wu-Tang Clan star performed on one of his favorite remixes of all time, Jodeci’s “Freek’N You” redux.
“Maybe me and Rae should hop on Runaway Love! FLEX would drop bombs,” West wrote on Twitter, referring to Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex’s method for showing his approval of records.
